Starting Back at a New School
It’s back to school time. But, for some kids, its “back” to a school that’s new to them. Most districts require at least one change in buildings before students graduate. Starting at a new school can be both exciting and a bit overwhelming. Here are some mental health tips to help you navigate this new chapter:
Stay Organized
Use a Planner: Keep track of assignments, tests, and activities.
Set Goals: Break down big tasks into smaller, manageable steps.
Identify your go to People
Connect with Friends: Try to meet new people and maintain existing friendships.
Talk to Trusted Adults: Share your feelings and concerns with parents and family members, teachers, or counselors.
Incorporate Self-Care
Get Enough Sleep: Aim for 8-10 hours of sleep each night.
Eat Healthily: Maintain a balanced diet to keep your energy levels up.
Exercise Regularly: Physical activity can help reduce stress and improve your mood.
Reduce Stress to Thrive
Take Breaks: Don't forget to take short breaks while studying.
Practice Relaxation Techniques: Try deep breathing, meditation, or yoga.
Remind yourself every step is Progress
Focus on Strengths: Celebrate your achievements and recognize your strengths.
Keep a Journal: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you process them.
Seek Help When Needed
Counseling Services: Don't hesitate to reach out to school counselors if you're feeling overwhelmed.
